Now this is where the bulk of my complaints come in. Gameplay that did everything possible to be frustrating Except for hearing Mr Blue Sky occasionaly was alway's nice. Half the story would have been better as a side mission unrelated to the main game, the other half of the story feel's like a cheap story DLC that was pieced together by left over's that were cut from the main game. Which would be preferrable at this point. I honestly feel like this game would be so much better if they attempted classic lego with no voice acting and a very good game of charades, it would have atleast made the story not stick out like a sore thumb and instead have made it a forgettable story. Between villain's that were boring, dialogue that felt cozy in a 19th century amateur fan fic and characters that were just honestly terrible, I hated every moment of it. Now Lego's original stories are usually always pretty fucking bad but Marvel 2 is so incredibly bad that I was counting the story missions left. I'm not even going to attempt to add humour, fuck the story It wasn't even the worst part of the game but it felt like such a downgrade to the previous game that I had to have a short talk about it. There was no "glue" making the whole place feel like one city, with most areas being incredibly difficult to traverse. In this new city, every 10 seconds of travel felt incredibly different but it didn't feel satisfying. If I got sick of flying, I could hop in a car and traverse it while it feels normal. I loved traversing the original Manhattan because it was connected and felt busy. It ended up feeling incredibly soulless and in some cases, a blatant attempt at advertising MCU films. You remove 90% of it and replace it with other part's of the Marvel universe. They butchered 3 of the core things that make any game good. But why was it like that? It was a sequel to such a great game, how could it mess it up this bad? It's simple actually. It was such a waste of time and such an unenjoyable game. Honestly, this is one of those few games where I wish I had never played. I only ended up getting 60% of the way through the game, 100% the main story missions and the DLC missions. So, moving back to the main topic, Marvel 2 is a game that I attempted to 100% over the last week. I'm sure from that list, most people here could pick out a franchise that they would be interested in playing. So much so that Lego were able to make game's with Harry Potter, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, D.C, Rock Band, Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings, Marvel, The Hobbit, Jurrasic World and The Incredibles.
Most bosses will require you to stun them or knock them in the arena by the use of puzzle's or puzzle-esq combat, this is followed by a brief moment where you get to absolutely blast them, lowering there health (Which is indicated by hearts).Īll of this made for some very satisfactory games. Bosse's are also done in a way that isn't annoying, combining both the puzzle element and combat element. The puzzle's aren't too easy but also not too hard, the combat is incredibly simple but also satisfactory due to the multiple different combat types the nature of the enemies (Most enemies being 1HKO's). But the gameplay is regarded as pretty solid by many people. The game's have alway's had a more comedic nature to them compared to what they are based on, with most scene's attempting to be more light hearted, usually with someone doing something immature or someone tripping. You fight goons, complete puzzles and then fight bosses.
So, for the 3 people who don't know about Lego games, they are puzzle beat-em-ups essentially. But this write up isn't about the first game, it's about the second game but before I carry on let me talk about Lego game's as a whole
I still regard Marvel 1 as one of my favourite game's of all time. I loved it so much that roughly 4 years ago, I bought it on Steam and 100% it. I had played the first game many years ago on the Xbox 360 and I had loved it. For me, that was Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 (Now shortened to Marvel 2). That urge to play a game that isn't on your radar or that you barely even remembered.
